Yin-yang

As we grow older, we are often bombarded with all these responsibilities that we were unaware of when we were children. We are told, not only by our families and society, but also by our inner conscience to do everything, all at once and at the right time. 

At times I would sit there and think deeply, about life and how I want my life to be. Trying to balance my education, relationships, family, my wants and needs in life such as travelling and celebrating milestones, saving up for things and events, trying to do all the right things at the right time. In thinking so I realised how important it is to have balance- that life is all about balance. The balance of ups and downs, happiness and sadness, joy and sorrow, certainty and uncertainty, order and chaos.

This piece was inspired by one of my favourite childhood movies- Mulan. In the second movie, Mulan is engaged to General Shang. When her parents find their differences in personalities, they gift them their necklaces -Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang is a philosophical concept that originated in China, where all things opposite are connected to maintain harmony within the universe. It highlights the importance of needing both the opposite counterparts in life.
