In my thoughts

Back when I was in sixth form, I used to walk to school, 45 minutes each way. Then while I was on placement during my nursing course in university, I walked to the hospital nearly an hour each way. Even though it meant I had to wake up earlier in the morning and that I would get home later at night, I always enjoyed spending some time in nature.  

“In my thoughts” was inspired by my long walks through the woods and the fields to get to my destination. I treasure those moments as it enabled me to get lost in my thoughts at times, taking in the fresh air and absorbing what mother nature has to offer. 

The girl in the picture is actually my sister, which may be another reason I cherish this piece so much, as well as the emotions I would feel at those moments. Feelings of uncertainty at times, fear and sadness at times, feelings of being content being by myself and pure joy at times. 

When I look at this painting, it reminds me of feeling as though I was the only person alive at that moment, walking through the woods, nobody else mattered and nothing else mattered. The pink dress worn here represents my love for colour, and I really appreciate the contrast in between the pink with the greens and browns.
