My favourite colour is red.

Today I’m feeling blue. It’s fascinating how colours can represent and ignite certain emotions and feelings within us. Red for passion, love, anger. Yellow for happiness, light and joy.

Inspired by my recent trip to Menorca, I have used all the different blues that I had the privilege to experience within their magnificent waters. Swimming in the turquoise blue seas was truly refreshing, in that moment I was thankful. Thankful for our beautiful world. 

As I sat down to create this piece I was calm, however I also had a lot on my mind. This painting expresses my emotions: the blues representing my calm and peace, while the contrast of the yellow represents feelings of frustration and stress being felt simultaneously. The brush strokes used for the blue background reminds me of waves and the ever changing nature of the sea; calm, soothing, timid, angry, intense and sometimes full of rage, hence mirroring the rise and fall of human emotions.

The first thing I notice when I look at this painting, is the yellow. It stands out from everything else, both in colour and pattern. It looks a little messy and out of place, however, the longer I look, the more I am immersed in the beauty and serenity of the overall picture.
